Watford Hit Liverpool Hard To End Unbeaten Run

League leaders, Liverpool on Saturday fell to a struggling Watford FC team.

The match whose result came as a huge surprise to many, saw Liverpool losing its 44-matches unbeaten run to bottom tabled Watford.

Senegalese star, Ismaila Sarr was in top form as he scored twice within six minutes before Watford captain Troy Deeney made it three to the delight of their fans.

Sarr almost added another right before being substituted for Argentine Ignacio Pussetto.

Watford who were struggling with relegation, continued their fine form after beating Manchester United last weekend before facing a formidable Liverpool side who are yet to lose their last 18 league games and were favourites to make it 19.

However, a Nigel Pearson’s inspired Watford took all 3-points and also out of the relegation zone.

Meanwhile, Arsenal who currently hold the title for longest unbeaten run, were watching keenly with hope that Liverpool would not beat their record, only for Watford to grant them answers to their prayers.

Known as 2003/2004 invincibles, Arsenal at the final whistle had tweeted: “Phew.” The tweet garnered over 35,000 retweets with 80,000 likes within 15-minutes.

The London side later followed up their initial tweet with a congratulatory message, tweeting: “Congratulations on a formidable unbeaten run, [Liverpool].”

Liverpool’s manager, Jurgen Klopp, was also gracious in defeat and congratulated the Hornets players, who stopped his team on Vicarage Road.

This is the first time his side would go in 37 league games without scoring a goal, after their match with Everton in March 2019.

Klopp while speaking to Sky Sports said: “We wanted to play quicker. With our high full-backs, they defended it with 6-3-1, so we had to think of ways of changing the formation. We couldn’t find the half spaces and the through balls weren’t easy.

”We adjusted our positioning at half-time and we started a lot better, but then we conceded. Before we could see the benefit of the improvement, we had conceded. 1-0 is not decisive if you react well but then we conceded a second one – still not decisive, but then we had a big hand in the third,” he added.

For the records, Liverpool’s has now lost two games since 10-year-old Daragh, a Manchester United fan from Donegal penned a brilliant letter to Klopp, asking him him to lose and allow other teams score.

“Liverpool are winning too many games. If you win nine more games then you have the best unbeaten run in English football. Being a United fan that is very sad,” the letter read.

“So the next time Liverpool play, please make them lose. You should just let the other team score. I hope I have convinced you to not win the league or any other match ever again.”

Arsene Wenger’s record remains intact

Since the letter was shared online, Liverpool lost 1-0 to Athletico Madrid in the Champions League and now to Watford.

Is it possible Liverpool’s lost is connected to the letter written by young Dagaragh? Also below is the list of teams with the longest longest unbeaten run in English Football.

49 – Arsenal

44 – Liverpool

42 – Nottingham Forest
